Breakthrough engineering relies on the development of theories and methods for innovative design, the mobilization of cooperative ecosystems involving companies, users, and public stakeholders, and the creation of new business models and forms of public governance.

  • The CGS, a pioneering laboratory in management sciences, is now integrated within the Interdisciplinary Institute of Innovation (i3), a joint research unit of the French National Centre for Scientific Research (UMR CNRS 9217).
  • The CGS research program, structured around three traditional management disciplines (industrial engineering, work, and institutions), pursues a strategy of breakthrough research, systematically combining pioneering scientific contributions with strong socio-economic impact.

The management approach developed at CGS within the field of engineering is characterized by:

  • A dual focus on modeling and organization, consisting of the joint study of models of rationality and their associated organizational forms, such as the Physical Internet.
  • A foundational perspective that places particular emphasis on emerging forms of collective action, including the theory of the firm, the Physical Internet, and C-K theory (Concept-Knowledge Theory).
  • A strong interest in novel forms of modeling, leading to the development of formal frameworks for generative reasoning.

The CGS research program, organized around the three traditional pillars of management (industrial engineering, work, and institutions), seeks to achieve scientific breakthroughs while generating substantial socio-economic impact.

Its main research themes include:

  • Design activities and innovation capabilities within firms.
  • The renewal of logistics organizations viewed as interconnected systems and networks.
  • Occupational dynamics and workplace health in innovation- and service-oriented activities.
  • Institutional change and new forms of governance (both public and private) in a context of innovation-driven and sustainable capitalism.
