Université PSL is launching a call for applications for a Junior Professor Chair in Economics titled "Environmental Public Policies in a Global World," based at the Department of Economics of École Normale Supérieure-PSL, part of Université Paris Sciences et Lettres.
This is a tenure-track position with a reduced teaching load leading to a permanent professorship within the Department of Economics at ENS-PSL and the UMR PJSE (https://economie.ens.psl.eu/).
The position can start from 2025 November or at a mutually agreed-upon date.
The position is open to all researchers wishing to develop their activity in environmental economics. The position includes a competitive salary and start-up funds at an international level.

The Department of Economics at ENS-PSL hosts active researchers in various fields of the discipline and provides training for economist students; it aims to strengthen its focus on environmental economics. The Center for Education on Environment and Society (CERES) at ENS-PSL is closely linked to the Department of Economics and offers an interdisciplinary range of courses on the environment. It also consolidates the resources and efforts of ENS-PSL around these issues, relying notably on the TERRAE program and the Master's in Sustainability Science. Finally, the UMR PjSE is the economics laboratory under the tutelage of ENS-PSL, comprising around a hundred researchers from all fields, and is at the forefront of international rankings in the discipline. It has prioritized environmental themes in its activity program, with strong needs for supervision at the master's level and a very dynamic research subject on which the laboratory wishes to strengthen its approach explicitly linked to public policy issues.
Mission

The position will involve offering courses on environmental policies at the master's level, integrated as an option in both the Department's Economics master's programs and the interdisciplinary PSL Master's in Sustainability Science.
The recruited individual will also be involved in the PSL minor "Public Action," in connection with CERES activities. These courses will be taught in English.
The CPJ holder will have a reduced teaching load during the pre-tenure period (42 hours of teaching per year).

Decision-makers and citizens face biochemical and geophysical threats that cannot be considered without their interaction with economic, social, and political issues. Conversely, to envision a model centered on human development and well-being, economists must broaden their analyses of market efficiency and inequalities to incorporate the various parameters of the transition.
The recruited individual will need to use economic analysis to model and evaluate the behavior of key actors with two focuses:
- Geographical scales (situation of poor countries in a globalized world: Exposure to disasters, issue of compensations)
- Normative analysis of well-being to found public policy recommendations
In line with contemporary empirical research, the recruited individual must be able to address these issues with granular data, which various statistical and computational tools allow exploiting with increasing efficiency.
